COMMON COLD-WATER QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

The Eureka Cold Water Immersion Tub utilizes a high-powered pump to continuously circulate water from the tub through an industrial chiller and back into the tub. The chiller cools the water down to a set point of your choosing and keeps it there.

Simultaneously, the water is moving through a high-capacity pleated filter to remove particulate down to 30 micron in size while an ozonator mixes disinfecting ozone into the water flow.

Finally, the Eureka Cold Water Immersion Tub is equipped with an on-board heater, should the ambient temperature dip too low.

Can the Eureka Cold Tub be used outdoors?

Yes. The Eureka tub is crafted from materials chosen for their strength and resistance to corrosion and wear and the mechanical components are protected from the weather. We do recommend, though, that if you live in an area prone to extreme weather, that you purchase the optional weather cover.

How cold can I make the water?

Under normal circumstances, the Eureka Cold Tub can maintain a temperature down to 2.8°C (37°F).

How long does it take to reach the target temperature?

Of course this will vary depending on your ambient temperature, but generally the tub will reach its target in 6-12 hours.

Once it has reached its target, the tub will maintain this temperature within 2°F (~1°C)

How much power does it use?

The Eureka Cold Water Tube uses about the same amount of electricity as a large domestic refrigerator, or under average circumstances, about 4 kW/h per day.

What are the electrical requirements?

Our domestic model uses a standard household 15 A circuit. This circuit must be dedicated and include a GFCI receptacle.

Do I need to use chemicals to maintain my water?

The Eureka Cold Water Immersion Tub has on-board filtration and ozonation which is capable of keeping the water clean and disinfected without chemicals. However, maintaining safe water conditions without chemicals requires regular testing for contaminants and possible pathogens. As this may not be possible in practice, the simplest and surest way to maintain your water is using standard spa chemicals. Please see our Owner's Manual for more details.

How often do I need to change the filter?

The Eureka Cold Tub uses a heavy-duty 30 micron, pleated filter with a 25 square foot filter area. This means that for average use, you may have to clean the filter every 50 plunges. Because it is washable, the filter cartridge may last 6 months or more.

What kind of maintenance and cleaning is required?

Though the built-in filter and disinfection is very effective, regular maintenance will include filter cleanings and occasional water changes. Additionally, filter cartridges will require replacement periodically. Please see our Owner's Manual for more information.

Are your tubs suitable for commercial or high-use environments?
